Maturity (psychological)

In psychology, maturity is the ability to respond to the environment in an appropriate manner. This response is generally learned rather than instinctive. Maturity also encompasses being aware of the correct time and place to behave and knowing when to act, according to the circumstances and the culture of the society one lives in. Adult development and maturity theories include the purpose in life concept, in which maturity emphasizes a clear comprehension of life’s purpose, directedness, and intentionality, which contributes to the feeling that life is meaningful.

The status of maturity is distinguished by the shift away from reliance on guardianship and the oversight of an adult in decision-making acts. Maturity has different definitions across legal, social, religious, political, sexual, emotional, and intellectual contexts. The age or qualities assigned for each of these contexts are tied to culturally-significant indicators of independence that often vary as a result of social sentiments. The concept of psychological maturity has implications across both legal and social contexts, while a combination of political activism and scientific evidence continue to reshape and qualify its definition. Because of these factors, the notion and definition of maturity and immaturity is somewhat subjective.

American psychologist Jerome Bruner proposed the purpose of the period of immaturity as being a time for experimental play without serious consequences, where a young animal can spend a great deal of time observing the actions of skilled others in coordination with oversight by and activity with its mother. The key to human innovation through the use of symbols and tools, therefore, is re-interpretive imitation that is “practiced, perfected, and varied in play” through extensive exploration of the limits on one’s ability to interact with the world. Evolutionary psychologists have also hypothesized that cognitive immaturity may serve an adaptive purpose as a protective barrier for children against their own under-developed meta-cognition and judgment, a vulnerability that may put them in harm’s way. For youth today, the steadily extending period of ‘play’ and schooling going into the 21st century comes as a result of the increasing complexity of our world and its technologies, which too demand an increasing intricacy of skill as well as a more exhaustive set of pre-requisite abilities. Many of the behavioral and emotional problems associated with adolescence may arise as children cope with the increased demands placed on them, demands which have become increasingly abstracted from the work and expectations of adulthood.

Off the top of the head, this post is being published for the good of the game, because it would just seem too out of the ordinary for us to not speak on the star studded festivities at The Metropolitan Museum Of Art last night, yet being that this is Mighty Mighty PimpHop.com, we would need to still offer something unique and insightful that really educates you as a valued viewer so that you can work with the proper pimpformation to get the best possible payoffs in “THE GAME”, and not be a robot who is only acting according to one’s social programming.

Now truth be told, I can see and accept a person at Kylie’s age with plus or minus five years of age feeling the urge to participate and seek to win big in a popularity contest like teenagers and young adults who are still developing a sense of self are known to do, yet the game gets deep when we are witnessing both men and women who are a substantial number of years past this age still trying to compete in and win a popularity contest just like some kids in high school, and even though we are referencing the Met Gala, this whole society from the perspective of yours truly, seems to be moving towards a comfortable yet institutionalized existence by way of social media, which brings grown adults back to the same type of tendencies that people in grade school or college display perhaps unknowingly, due to a human beings tendency to want to “fit in” and attain social acceptance from their peers which is usually accomplished by following the crowd, often referred to as a herd mentality.

The cold part about all of it is, that being at the age that I am now, I can say beyond a shadow of a doubt according to my own life experience, that when it comes to women, they truly never actually grow up, in the fullest sense of the word, which is why the ways and actions of a person like Kris Jenner, and those of her youngest daughter Kylie are so similar, and I say that not as a diss or put-down, but rather, I believe that mother nature intends for it to be as such because children actually do come from women, and women then need to be able to connect and bond with children on an emotional level as children at a younger age do tend to be somewhat more emotional with male children growing into rational thinking and female children remaining the same on an emotional level, in order to repeat the process.

Again, this is coming straight off the top of the head, and since it is Mental Health Awareness Month, the decision was made to go ahead and share the long read Wikipedia description of the term maturity, as it relates to psychology, because mature people such as the ones that frequent PimpHop.com will invest some time into reading if the content is of extreme relevance.

In closing, I would estimate that the reason why Jay Z opted out of attending this year’s Met Gala festivities on some level, has to do with this matter being discussed, and his duties as a grown man and business leader took a priority over the desire to participate in the contest with his own wife, and other women as well as some men who attended the festivities, and we also give a shout out to Kylie for bringing the issue of maturity up in her Instagram image in order to help us look more closely at what is really going on, because if the theme of this year’s gala was about Fashion In An Age Of Technology, the technology, coincides with the New Economy, which according to Mark Zuckerberg, translates to a Knowledge Economy which sets us up in a place of extreme wealth and allows us to consider the matter from a New World Order perspective.
