Julia Roberts’ Pretty Woman Dress Is Back—and in High Demand

    (Editors Note – Tuesday July 1, 2014)

This is an article from back in the Summer of 2010 that was re published today with some more recent imagery added into the story in order  to help monitor the progress of this line of thinking and social programming, as measured against all of the social stigma that it has and does receive, in order to asses which school of thought and acting has the best chance of becoming the new social norm and withstanding the test of time.

Ultimately, the choice is yours as the valued viewer.

    Enjoy.

    936full-pretty-woman-posterGreetings Earthlings.
I was actually going to wait until tomorrow before I posted this entry, yet since I am in the flow here and now, I decided to let tomorrow do what it does when I arrive there.

Pimp and Prostitute are in my opinion two of the most interesting words in the entire lexicon of the English language, as they both carry so much emotional punch when spoken or heard.  As for me, they are words, that like any other have contexts in which they are placed, and when it comes to the science of image and reputation, I can begin to see why they have such a powerful emotional punch when used as labels.

In my life experience, the word prostitute is one that many women tend to hold in disregard, as for whatever reason, Americans and certain others have been conditioned to see the word and what it represents in a negative light, to the extent that it would generally be considered insulting to label a woman as such.

Ever since I was a teenager, I have wondered about exactly why this is a fact in our society, as the common consensus amongst most is that a prostitute is a woman and sometimes a male that sales sexual favors in exchange for money of some other form of benefit, and what I believe is the cause of my bewilderment, is in regards to how much of an importance is placed in American society for individuals to be sexually appealing, especially with women.

It seems to be hypocritical to say the least, when a double standard is applied to show a particular type of woman who is a professional of sex appeal by trade is frowned upon, where as another type of woman is celebrated for her sex appeal.

Usually, it becomes synonymous with a term of extreme importance in regards to economics and wealth, which is known as class

Social classes are economic or cultural arrangements of groups in society. Class is an essential object of analysis for sociologists, political scientists, economists, anthropologists and social historians. In the social sciences, social class is often discussed in terms of ‘social stratification‘. In the modern Western context, stratification typically comprises of three layers: upper class, middle class, and lower class. Each class may be further subdivided into smaller classes (e.g. occupational).

The most basic class distinction is between the powerful and the powerless.[1][2] Social classes with a great deal of power are usually viewed as “the elites” within their own societies. Various social and political theories propose that social classes with greater power attempt to cement their own ranking above the lower classes in the hierarchy to the detriment of the society overall. By contrast, conservatives and structural functionalists have presented class difference as intrinsic to the structure of any society and to that extent ineradicable.

If you are one of the more scholarly types, you can feel free to review the link above on social class and how it relates to society in regards to power and economics, yet for the sake of this discussion, I am keeping things simple.

The thing that I have always asked when it comes to the concept of classification, is in regards to who actually is giving out the grades. I often hear of terms such as sexy but classy, wondering where women and certain males who define the standard get their criteria from, and as an insider secret amongst us as friends, part of the development of a publication was spawned by Hugh Hefner and his unique ability to inspire countless young women of various backgrounds to gladly pose in the nude for a widely circulated publication, where as in most other instances, they would frown upon the request, and it again would have to do with the statement that was being made in regards to class and high society association.

It is the equivalent of calling a woman a hooker or prostitute, and being corrected by her and others through the claim that she is a Playboy Playmate, and there is an obvious difference.

In comes the Hollywood connection, which is primarily responsible for shaping the view and popular opinion of who and what is and what is not hot in American society and globally, and before I elaborate, it could be simply a by product of my upbringing and things that I was exposed to as a youth, because when I would hear the term classy, the pictures of High Society and Hollywood Pimp and Prostitute status would show as synonymous as the image below can better convey.

It leads me to question exactly what and how much of female behavior and behavior in general is sanctioned only by what is considered as socially appropriate and acceptable, especially with the term social media as such a popular and meaningful word in the information age.

To save myself the time of writing an abundant amount on this subject, the header image is from a story that I believe is one of the most relevant and socially enlightening films on the subject that we are discussion, and it came to mind due to the release of a new film starring Julia Roberts called
Eat Pray Love , which is an exploration into self as is the film Pretty Woman.

It could just be my imagination or me seeing what I want to see, yet the movie Pretty Woman tells in interesting story about an adventure of a prostitute in the City Of Angels, which for whatever reason subsequently landed the starring actress in the film to the position of highest paid actress for quite a few years straight, while simultaneously working substantially less than many other A- List actresses, and she has even re appeared on the list for 2010 at number six on the list, which is this year headed by Sandra Bullock.

Forbes Top Ten Highest Paid Actresses in $U.S. :

    1. Sandra Bullock ($56million)

    2. Reese Witherspoon ($32million)

    3. Cameron Diaz ($32million)

    4. Jennifer Aniston ($27million)

    5. Sarah Jessica Parker ($25million)

    6. Julia Roberts ($20million)

    7. Angelina Jolie ($20million)

    8. Drew Barrymore ($15million)

    9. Meryl Streep ($13million)

    10. Kristen Stewart ($12million)

    My point is?

I believe that at some point in the near future, the grim reality of high unemployment rates will shift focus to the exact opposite, which is often referred to as working girls, and when I hear talk of wealth redistribution by certain big name individuals in regards to the middle class, it will lead to an even more in depth exploration of who, where and what exactly

hands out the grades for the class system through which the wealth is distributed in the first place?

My closing argument is that it is not an argument to conclude that when it comes to power, those who break rules and subsequently make it safe for others to follow the new standards in regards to social acceptance seem to always wind up in the lead role and the name of this process is one which some embrace while others resist, which is known as the process of CHANGE.

    On with the show.
