Roc Nation Sports
Roc Nation, a full-service entertainment company founded by Shawn “JAY Z†Carter, announced today the launch of Roc Nation Sports, a full-service sports management company, and has signed MLB All-Star Robinson Cano of the New York Yankees. Roc Nation Sports, led by Carter and Juan Perez, who serves as President, has partnered with CAA Sports, a division of Creative Artists Agency (CAA), a leading entertainment and sports agency, to co-represent Cano.
“Because of my love of sports, it was a natural progression to form a company where we can help top athletes in various sports the same way we have been helping artists in the music industry for years,†said Carter.
Robinson Cano, second baseman for the New York Yankees, starts this year with a streak of four consecutive seasons of at least a .300 batting average and 25 home runs. Hailing from the Dominican Republic, Cano made his major league debut in 2005 and has since been a four-time All Star (2006, 2010 – 2012), a multiple Silver Slugger Award winner (2006, 2010 – 2012), winner of two Golden Glove awards (2010, 2012) and has been named American League Player of the Month twice (September 2006, April 2010). Member of the New York Yankees’ 2009 World Series championship team, Cano was not just a player on the Dominican Republic’s 2013 World Baseball Classicchampionship team, he won tournament MVP. Part of the New York Yankees starting line up, Robinson Cano is also known for his philanthropic endeavors. Cano founded the RC24 Foundation for disadvantaged youth in the Dominican Republic. One of the foundation’s efforts includes the program “Grand Slam Wishes,” in which RC24 invites terminally-ill children to attend Yankees games, watch batting practice, receive mementos and meet the players.
