A Billion Dollar Home?

According to the experts, a person can achieve whatever it is that their mind can conceive and from the looks of this project that is nearing completion, a billion dollar home is a testimonial to this belief.

Mukesh Ambani, India’s wealthiest man and top five wealthiest in the world along with his wife have decided to invest over one billion dollars of their fortune into this residence in Mumbai India which will be contructed in the form of a 27 story skyscaper with no two floors built indentically and with a full time service staff of 600 employess.

Like many families with the means to do so, the Ambanis wanted to build a custom home. They consulted with architecture firms Perkins + Will and Hirsch Bedner Associates, the designers behind the Mandarin Oriental, based in Dallas and Los Angeles, respectively. Plans were then drawn up for what will be the world’s largest and most expensive home: a 27-story skyscraper in downtown Mumbai with a cost nearing $2 billion, says Thomas Johnson, director of marketing at Hirsch Bedner Associates. The architects and designers are creating as they go, altering floor plans, design elements and concepts as the building is constructed.

The rather awkward-looking structure was designed by U.S. architects using principles of Vaastu, Indian traditional geomancy akin to Chinese feng shui, to maximize “positive energy.” No two floor plans are alike, and the materials used in each level vary widely, driving up the cost.
