Social Support

Social support is the perception and actuality that one is cared for, has assistance available from other people, and that one is part of a supportive social network. These supportive resources can be emotional (e.g., nurturance), tangible (e.g., financial assistance), informational (e.g., advice), or companionship (e.g., sense of belonging) and intangible (e.g. personal advice). Social support can be measured as the perception that one has assistance available, the actual received assistance, or the degree to which a person is integrated in a social network. Support can come from many sources, such as family, friends, pets, neighbours, coworkers, organizations, etc. Government provided social support is often referred to as public aid.

Welcome Home!

The time is 8:45 AM on a Tuesday, which is looking to be quite a busy and productive day, so the decision was made to get this entry done before we continue on with today’s festivities.

I decided to use my own profile image in this post to bring the focus back to exactly where the story gets started and continues, and with social media, smartphones, the mobile web, and just life in the always connected digital era, it seems to boil down to this very simple yet complex state of affairs regarding social support and emotional dependence.

When we look closely, what we see taking place in the form of words and pictures on the web is communication, and this is how the exchange of emotion occurs, and while yours truly is the least in need of emotional/social support from others as listed in the Wikipedia description above, I subsequently find myself in an excellent position to provide it (support)for others, and decided to just turn it into an enjoyable and well paying multi-billion dollar occupation and operation for myself and others who are fit for the task of providing service, and after a few more key strokes, well…. the rest is mystery.
